Ignore this now, lose your tooth later…MainTruth
.
If you know that, you do not want to experience a
devastating phenomenon of tooth “wahala”, please,
I implore you to practice
everything recommended on this article.
If you have not experienced tooth ache before, you
might not appreciate this piece of information you
are about to chew now.
.We use our teeth to chew
everything that is not a liquid that finds its way into
our mouth. That means, without our teeth at their
optimal performance, one may suffer malnutrition
or avoid solid food (for how long?).
.

Almost everyone is guilty of the crime of inviting
tooth ache or tooth-decay into our lives. This is
because many people are not careful to mind how
they use their teeth on daily basis and this has lead
to serious tooth ache/decay to almost everyone in
the society today.
Look around you, tell yourself the truth; in your
household, is there no one around, who is presently
complaining about the tooth or has extracted one or
even more teeth? Even you, are you not a victim of
this phenomenon! If there is/are, that means, this
report is about to achieve its purpose, which is,
“ truth heals”.
.
Before I go further, let me ask you this question;
when last did you have a hand-shake with a dentist?
Oh, did you say NOT AT ALL LONG AGO? Chei! Why
are you then complaining! Well, I am not here to
judge you. By the time you are through with this
report, you will place yourself, where you belong.
.
What is tooth decay?
Tooth decay is damage that occurs when germs
(bacteria) in your mouth make acids that eat away at
a tooth. It can lead to a hole in the tooth, called a
cavity. If not treated, tooth decay can pains,
infection, and tooth loss.
Some Parts Of The Tooth
, The hard outer layer is called enamel.
The middle layer is called dentin.
The center of the tooth is called the pulp. It contains
nerves and blood vessels.
.
As the layers are affected by the decay, the more
the damage.
.
Causes Of Tooth Decay
I am not here to scare but to shock you that, tooth
ache/decay is caused by what we eat/drink everyday.
Bacteria and food can cause tooth decay. A clear,
sticky substance called plaque is always forming on
your teeth and gums. Plaque contains bacteria that
feed on the sugars in the food you eat.
As the bacteria feed, they make acids. The acids
attack the teeth for 20 minutes or more after you
eat. Over time, these acids destroy tooth enamel,
causing tooth decay. When there is a decay,
excruciating pains follow. Incase you do not know,
when bacteria feed on the sugar or leftover food in
our mouth, they produce urine (acid). When they
urinate on our tooth, the acid (urine) begins to make
holes, thereby laying the foundation for germs to
come in and build a house (decay) in your tooth.
.
Things that we do everyday that make us likely
have tooth decay
.
* Not brushing and flossing your teeth regularly and
not seeing a dentist for checkups and cleanings.
.
* Eating foods that are high in sugar and other
carbohydrates, which feed the bacteria in your
mouth.
.
* Not getting enough fluoride. Fluoride helps
prevent tooth decay by making teeth more resistant
to acids produced by plaque. Fluoride is added to
many public water supplies.
.
*Not having enough saliva. Saliva washes away food
and harmful sugars, so it helps protect your teeth
from decay.
.
* Improper use of tooth pick.
.
Prevention Of Tooth Ache/Decay
Brush twice a day
Eat fibre food
Visit a dentist at least ones a year
Yes, you heard me well! Brush twice per day
but the question is this, what time do we brush? First,
brush immediately after breakfast (not before
breakfast oh). Please, don’t say, my mother taught
me to brush after taking my breakfast. That is the
number way of sending an invitation card to bacteria/
germs to come and cause tooth decay/damage. The
explanation is like this; do you take your bathe in the
morning before going to the farm? Even if you do,
don’t you take another one as you return from farm,
in order to wash away dirt? If you brush your teeth
before breakfast, you are just like the same farmer,
who has his bath in the morning before going to farm
and comes back and sleep without having another
one. You will discover that, he will sleep with all the
dirts/germs accumulate on his body while working in
the farm. So, if you brush before eating, all the
particles will be trapped in your mouth, in between
your teeth no matter how you rinse your mouth.
.
Remember, bacteria begin to form acid about
20minutes after eating. Therefore, if you leave your
teeth unbrushed after eating for a long time, what do
you think that will happen to your teeth before the
next time you will brush! Well, can you see how our
age-long traditional practice has been contributing to
our slow death!
.
Now, if you brush after breakfast, you will keep the
bacteria far away from your teeth for a long time.
Then, immediately, you know that, you will never
put any other thing inside your mouth, that is, last
thing before you sleep, now brush, so as to keep the
bacteria away from your teeth before you wake. In
the morning, rinse your mouth with a clean water
and then, take your breakfast. After eating, brush…
.
Eating of foods that have fiber. Those foods are;
orange, pineapple, apple and so on. Well, do you say;
lick orange or eat orange! Well, which ever, note it
today that, we eat orange. How! When you finish
sucking the liquid content, please, do not throw the
fibre to goat/dustbin. Chew it. While you eat it, it
helps to cleanse any bacteria hiding around the
teeth. Also, as you dip your teeth to consume
orange, you discover that, your teeth always insert
into the orange thereby, making it possible for the
fibre of the orange to also remove the bacteria from
the teeth. It is the same thing with other foods like
pineapple.
.
Have you heard it that, “an apple today drives
away a dentist tomorrow”. That means, apple is a
very good weapon to demolish the camp of bacteria.
Apple removes bacteria very fast from our teeth. So,
when next you take apple, do not eat it only because
of the taste. It is a great sanitizer/cleanser.
.
You use tooth-pick whenever you finish eating meat,
right? Well, be wise! At times, we puncture our gum
with the tooth pick while we are picking the particles
trapped in between our teeth. The moment the gum
holding our tooth is perforated, germs must crawl in
immediately. At this point, use your head as we
always say in our parlance.
.
Wow, we take bottled water often because we can
afford it! Great idea but I must tell you the truth
you may not always find elsewhere. Bottled water
does not contain much of fluoride. Normal town/
community water is enriched with much fluoride,
which is the mineral that fights bacteria in our teeth.
.
NB: Fluoride is a mineral that can prevent tooth
decay from progressing. It can even reverse, or stop
early tooth decay. It prevents mineral loss in tooth
enamel and replaces lost minerals. It reduces the
ability of bacteria to make acid. This is known as
mineralization.
Do not forget;
.
*Always buy fruits for your household instead of
sugary food

*Bacteria feed on sugary foods much.
